About a year ago I decided after many requests to offer canvas prints of my images. I take great care in taking the photographs and offer very high quality printed images in house so when offering my work as a canvas print the results had to be equally as good.
I am a skilled photographer, printer and framer but not experienced in canvas printing or stretching so I decided to find a company to produce them for me. Before offering this service I spent a considerable amount of time conducting market research.
I ordered canvasses from a number of the well known online canvas companies and a couple more local to me to gauge the market. The quality varied from ok to passable to very poor and I experienced many MDF frames with thin paper like canvasses stapled to them. The colours were close on most but some were nowhere near true.
Most importantly, virtually all the canvas companies I investigated applied no form of protection over the canvas at all. I have one on my wall where the ink has literally rubbed off especially on the corners. They were not water, moisture or scuff resistant either. (I tested them in the garden with a bit of rainfall)
Then I found a specialist canvas company through recommendation from another photographer.
I ordered a sample one from them and it ticked all the boxes. The canvas was fantastic quality stretched over a solid pine frame with stretcher pegs in the corners as with oil paintings. It was fully protected from UV,moisture and was scuff resistant. The colours were absolutely exact to my Large Format Epson Pro prints. I have one on the garage wall in my garden that has been there in all weathers for over a year and it still looks at good as it did when I received it. (apart from additional artistic content from the seagulls)
Occasionally someone will comment on a 'canvas' print available from a garden centre, shop or gallery thats cheaper. They are totally swayed when the differences are explained.
When a customer purchases one of my photographs as a card, print or canvas I fully expect them to enjoy it for many years thus the quality and finish are paramount. Even my greetings cards use Fuji Crystal Archive photos that will last around 60 years!
This company now produces all my canvasses without hesitation.
ABOUT THE CANVASSES.
PRINTER & INKS - The canvasses are produced with HP Designjet Z6100 printers, with the HP vivera inks, giving vibrant, colourfast prints, every time. The laminated canvas prints are light fast for up to 200 years!
LAMINATION - In addition to the colourfastness of the inks, a scratch proof, water resistant laminate
coating is applied to all canvas prints, the laminate is a Satin - Matt finish applied using a Hot Press, vacuum press.
This process ensures each canvas gets a consistent finish and an unrivalled protective coating every time. The laminated coating becomes invisible and allows the textured weave of the high quality heavyweight canvas to show through.
THIS PROCESS ALLOWS YOUR CANVAS TO BE SUITABLE FOR DISPLAY IN BATHROOMS AND KITCHENS OR OTHER HUMID ENVOIRONMENTS.
The canvas is then professionally stretched over a 38mm solid wood frame with stretcher bars and pegs for a warp free rigid canvas.
The canvas is then packed in bubble wrap and a thick layer of corrugated card and sent to you by courier.
THIS IS ALL INCLUDED IN THE PRICE YOU PAY.
TURNAROUND TIME IS SUPER QUICK. YOU WILL USUALLY RECEIVE YOUR CANVAS WITHIN FIVE DAYS OF ORDERING.
